The purpose of this research is to better understand the effect of gravity and cosmic radiation on the cellular homeostasis by employing Direct Visualization technology. We will assemble several devices, such as 3D-clinostat and miniature light microscopy, to develop novel experimental systems, where mammalian cells expressing a variety of fluorescent probes (e.g. Fucci, oxidative stress probe, autophagy probe, inflammation probe, metabolic probe) are time-lapse imaged while exposed to micro- and hyper-gravity or cosmic radiation. Our study will provide valuable suggestions about how the humankind can spend healthy life in real outer space.
